Computer Network and Systems Engineer

Key Responsibilities

Fortinet Firewall Security Management:

• Firewall Configuration & Security Policy Management: Configure and manage Fortinet Firewalls (FortiGate series) to ensure secure network traffic flow and safeguard against external and internal threats.
• VPN Management: Oversee the configuration, implementation, and maintenance of secure VPN solutions (site-to-site, remote access) to ensure protected communication across locations.
• Threat Detection & Response: Monitor security logs and network traffic for potential threats, analyse incidents, and apply security measures to mitigate risks. Provide timely response to security breaches and vulnerabilities.
• Regular Audits & Updates: Conduct regular firewall audits and review firewall configurations to ensure compliance with security standards and implement timely updates to address vulnerabilities.

Support & Planning for Virtual Windows Servers in Azure:

• Deployment & Configuration: Plan, deploy, and manage virtual Windows Servers within Microsoft Azure, ensuring alignment with business requirements for performance, scalability, and security.
• Maintenance & Troubleshooting: Provide ongoing management and support for virtualized Windows Servers, including patch management, system updates, and troubleshooting performance issues to ensure smooth operation.
• Automation & Optimization: Use automation tools such as PowerShell, Azure CLI, and ARM templates to optimize server deployments and reduce manual intervention, ensuring efficient server management.
• Security Hardening: Implement security best practices for virtual Windows Servers, such as configuring firewalls, access control, encryption, and ensuring compliance with Azure security policies.
• Resource Monitoring: Continuously monitor the performance and resource utilization of virtual servers in Azure to ensure efficiency and avoid potential bottlenecks.

Veeam Backup for Microsoft 365:

• Backup Management for MS365: Administer and maintain Veeam backup solutions for Microsoft 365 environments (including Exchange Online, SharePoint, OneDrive, and Teams), ensuring reliable, secure, and efficient backup processes.
• Backup Monitoring & Troubleshooting: Monitor backup jobs to ensure completion without errors. Troubleshoot backup failures, analyse logs and resolve any issues to guarantee that all critical Microsoft 365 data is backed up and can be recovered.
• Data Recovery & Restores: Manage the recovery of data from Microsoft 365 using Veeam, ensuring fast and accurate restores for users when necessary.
• Documentation & Reporting: Maintain up-to-date documentation for backup schedules, configurations, and recovery processes. Provide reports on backup job status and restore requests to management.

General Support & Technical Expertise:

• Provide high-level support for Fortinet firewall, virtualized Windows servers, and Microsoft 365 backup environments.
• Assist in troubleshooting and resolving security, performance, and backup issues, ensuring minimal disruption to business operations.
• Collaborate with IT teams to plan and implement infrastructure improvements, system updates, and security initiatives.

Collaboration & Documentation:

• Work closely with internal stakeholders to support projects related to network security, cloud infrastructure, and backup solutions.
• Maintain detailed technical documentation for system configurations, firewall policies, backup procedures, and Azure infrastructure.
• Provide technical reports and updates to management on security posture, backup health, and server performance.

Experience & Qualifications

• Extensive experience in managing Fortinet Firewalls (FortiGate series), with deep knowledge of configuring security policies, VPNs, and traffic monitoring.
• In-depth understanding of network security, including threat detection, access control, and firewall rule management.
• Strong experience in planning, deploying, and managing virtual Windows Server environments within Microsoft Azure.
• Familiarity with automating server tasks using PowerShell, Azure CLI, and ARM templates to streamline the deployment and maintenance of virtual machines.
• Expertise in maintaining the security and performance of virtualized servers in Azure, applying best practices for cloud security, access management, and resource optimization.
• Hands-on experience with Veeam backup and recovery solutions for Microsoft 365, including Exchange Online, SharePoint, OneDrive, and Teams.
• Ability to monitor and manage Veeam backup jobs, troubleshoot backup issues and ensure the security and availability of backup data.
• Experience performing restores from Microsoft 365 environments, ensuring data integrity and minimal recovery time.
• Proven ability to provide technical support and troubleshooting for Fortinet firewalls, virtual Windows Servers, and Veeam backup systems.
• Strong problem-solving skills to quickly address security breaches, performance issues, and backup failures.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills to create detailed documentation and provide updates to management and stakeholders.
• Ability to clearly articulate technical issues and solutions to both technical and non-technical audiences.
• Bachelor's degree in computer science, Information Technology, Cybersecurity, or a related field (preferred).
• Relevant certifications such as Fortinet NSE (Network Security Expert), Microsoft Certified: Azure Administrator Associate, or Veeam Certified Engineer (VCP) (preferred).
