Technical Writer (Manufacturing)

Executive recruitment firm Monroe Consulting Group Philippines is recruiting on behalf of a prominent American electric motorcycle manufacturer originally founded as Electricross in 2006 by Neal Saiki, a former NASA engineer, in Santa Cruz, California. It has recently established a "global base" in the Philippines in partnership with Ayala's Integrated Micro-Electronics Inc. (IMI) to meet the surging global demand for electric motorcycles.

Job Summary

  • Our respective client is seeking a highly motivated Technical Writer creates the internal development and external client technical documentation for the company's Engineering functions Powertrain system clients. This position owns taking detailed engineering descriptions from a developers' perspective and transform it into specifications, guidelines, and process descriptions for a technically adept client audience.
  • A key responsibility is independent collaboration with the technical function(s) within the company to publish revision-controlled artifacts, as assigned or foreseen. This position will track and complete needed documentation support tasks to share information during integration of the company's powertrain in partner programs.
  • This role works out of the company's Philippines office and reports to the Director of Powertrain Applications Engineering while managing work assignments through company's task tracking and project development methodology tools, including managing the delivery of artifacts to powertrain clients
  • The job is in Binan, Laguna Philippines, and offers an On-site Working Arrangement.


Key Job Responsibilities:

  • Gather information and field documentation requests from subject matter experts (e.g. engineers, quality assurance, software developers, technicians, etc.)
  • Collaborate with engineers and technicians to document processes
  • Comprehend and extract system operation information from engineering documentation and tools (such as schematics, system specifications, and pseudo-code)
  • Produce high-quality documentation (e.g. Technical Guidelines, Graphical System Architectures, component or system specifications, modification procedures, and possibly web tools) that meets professional publishing standards and bring existing content up-to-date
  • Copy-edit content accuracy by collaborating to validate information accuracy, perform peer review of others' content, and invite critique through review processes
  • Strategize and implement development document process improvements
  • Source, modify, and use photos and graphics appropriately including requesting figures from technical staff to highlight areas of interest to document end-users
  • Manage tasks and information flow using collaboration software such as JIRA,
  • Confluence, Smartsheet, Draw.io and custom databases
  • Adopt and further develop company's powertrain information architecture system
  • Reduce complex technical concepts into concise, complete, and understandable copy
  • Prioritize work to manage time spent on tasks to achieve an appropriate level of detail
  • Effectively and creatively communicate with team members remotely
  • Collaborate with company's Powertrain Program Management to deliver technical documentation in a remote work environment with deadlines
  • Must be flexible to work independently and judiciously interact with internal teams and clients
  • Actively participate in identifying work products for continuous technical documentation improvements to apply to company's development methodology
  • Keeping on top of workload to communication change impacts due to priority adjustments
  • Adept at writing for translation or localization experience


Required Education/Experience:

  • 3-5 years' experience in technical writing of software documentation with knowledge of content development publishing toolsets
  • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, Computer Science or related field; certificate in Technical Writing, or equivalent professional experience will be considered
  • Markup language experience (such as HTML, XML, XLS or SGML)
  • Structured authoring tool use (such as oXygen, XMetaL, Azure)
  • Content Management System (CMS) use experience (such as Team Center, Salesforce)
  • Knowledge of Atlassian Confluence and JIRA collaboration tools
  • Documentation strategy and architecture experience
  • Writing style training in Simplified Technical English, S1000D, MIL-STD, MSW, or custom style guide creation or contributions
  • Portfolio of hardcopy or softcopy writing samples and projects
  • Working knowledge of Adobe InDesign is a plus
  • Automotive Technical Authoring Experience


Physical and Sensory Requirements:

  • Candidate must be able to sit for long periods of time to perform duties, and to move around and make inquiries from other staff, management as needed.
  • Must be able to bend or stoop down to access files, including lifting of items or objects up to 50 lbs
